"He was laughing because of my freckles? Because he thinks I look more stupid with them." I breathe out. "I'm happy to remain the source of your constant amusement Aiden." My words are vile, and I wish I could do more. I hate him. My freckles are one of my biggest insecurity. I hate them as much as I hate Aiden. They make me seem different and not in a good way. I wonder why my father doesn't let me get them surgically removed. I don't care about the cost. And now Aiden throws it to my face.

My lips were full. My eyes were a nice color, but despite my dark hair, my eyelashes were rather pale. I had a bunch of new freckles on my nose and chest, and seeing them, I smiled. I didn’t wear makeup very often, and I always preferred to make sure my freckles were visible if I did. I never understood why people wanted to cover them up. They were cute, like sprinkles tossed across my skin.

“What did I say?” “Don’t spout poetry about my stupid freckles. They don’t resemble ‘cinnamon sprinkled on cream’ or ‘nature’s polka dots on a flesh canvas’. They’re ugly. They’re weird. Her hair was falling over her shoulders, long and bleached a vibrant golden color that reminded me of the vivid sunsets back home, when the sun turned the ocean a warm, pinkish orange as it dipped below the horizon. She was beautiful. I couldn't deny it. I wanted to reach out and touch the half-moon scar on her chest as she stood in front of me, slicing into my soul with her gaze. She had freckles all along her collarbones, surrounding the scar like constellations in a cloudless sky.

I swiped the black mascara over my lashes, making them look longer and full, before finishing my look off with a swipe of dark red lipstick across my full lips.
