**The Shadows Den...** The Shadows, an enigmatic group that thrived in the deepest recesses of the underworld, were far more than just a syndicate—they were legends, whispered about in fear and awe. Her eyes, she could feel them changing, emitting a pale blue light. “Get back!” the female temple member shouted, her voice now full of alarm. But it was too late. Siron’s hands, or the hands Morat now controlled, rose. The movement was graceful and authoritative. From every finger, bursts of pitch-black darkness, living shadows, leaped out. These shadows struck the cage of light, and instead of being repelled, they consumed it. The silvery light shattered like glass. The two male temple members were thrown backward, screaming as the shadows touched their skin, leaving marks like cold burns.

They were forming a circle around the group, their movements synchronized with Alaric’s breathing. ​“They’re listening,” Caleb hissed, his voice low. “The Shadows. They’re feeding on the truth.” ​“Let them listen!” Silas paced, his silver eyes flashing. “If this is a disease, we find a cure. We go to the heart of the Abyss, we find the origin of the parasite, and we cut it out.” ​“You can’t cut out your own blood, Silas,” Elara whispered. ​Finn, meanwhile, had wandered into the back of the library. He had found a mirror that wasn't a silver mirror, but a Void-Mirror a black, liquid surface that didn't reflect the room. Finn stared into it, his face turning ghostly pale.

The only thing that mattered was bringing Rayne back. I materialized at the edge of the chasm, peering down into its seemingly bottomless depths. I melted into the shadows, dodging each attack, the heat grazing my skin but never quite touching me. I emerged from the darkness once more, sending tendrils of shadow snaking toward him. This time, they were thicker, more solid. They wrapped around his arms and legs, pinning him in place. I tightened my grip, feeling the shadows constrict his movements. Hyperion struggled, his muscles bulging as he tried to break free, but the shadows held firm. For a moment, it seemed like I had him. But then, with a roar of effort, Hyperion's body exploded with solar energy. The shadows disintegrated under the intense heat, and I was forced to retreat, shielding my eyes from the blinding light.

These mysterious shadows had the power to create hallucinations and instill extreme fear. "AHHHHHH!" Ploy shrieked at the top of her lungs. She shook uncontrollably with extreme terror. "They're coming! They're everywhere!" She hugged It tightly and tried to close her eyes, but the images of the mysterious shadows still appeared in her mind! It looked at the shadows that were creeping closer. He could feel the dark energy emanating from them. "They are the real Watchers," It said calmly and firmly. "They are the result of the experiment that was released, and they're hunting us." He remembered what Uncle Daeng had said about these shadows.

I saw his eyes sadden and felt a tiny pinprick in my heart. "You know whatever information you have is crucial. You're obliged to tell me." His head snapped up and I could see the anger bubble within him. "You're an insensitive little bi-" "I'm your alpha and you will respect me." I boomed which silenced him. "My father. He was killed by the shadows." He said. I looked at him confused and asked, "What are the shadows?" He sighed and looked up, "Humans who have come into contact with dark forces. Those are shadows. Some people call them witches, but they are much more than that. They lurk in the dark and feed off all things evil."

The place had been cleaned already, and my mother and I had come to make sure that the shadows had passed on when their hosts died. My mother was an intelligent woman, who knew how to help shadows pass on when they tried to stay on the mortal plane without a host. The shadows can succumb to the dark and become evil, or end up dying if they don't have a host. My mother knew with powerful shadows like those of the Watts that we needed to be sure they had all gone. Which thankfully they all had. So my mother and I spent the day putting the place back together for whoever was left. My mother swore that a Watts from this family would return, and she was right.

Dupree, with his rune-infused blade, fended off the Shadows, each strike causing them to momentarily dissipate. Seraphina and I focused on the chest, attempting to harness its energy. As we channeled our combined powers, the chest began to glow brighter, emitting a frequency that seemed to disorient the Shadows. Moros, seizing the opportunity, shouted, "Now! Push them back!" With a collective effort, we unleashed a wave of energy, forcing the Shadows to retreat.
