Across the grand floor, fifty yards away near the south archway, Gabriel Cross stood beneath the shadow of the marble pillar. He had a fresh glass of scotch in his hand, his eyes locked onto Julian's back.
Julian felt the heat of Gabriel’s gaze burning through his velvet jacket like a brand.
Without looking back, Julian raised his numbered paddle into the brightly lit air.
