Novel & Cerita Surviving Disaster Extreme Cold Chapter 4

“You can come out of hiding now.” I grab my book and flashlight, crawling on my hands and knees through the door. The cold from the ground chills me and my pants are wet from sitting on the muddy patch of grass inside the shelter. I know my face is red and puffy from the cold. I lost feeling in my nose and ears, hours ago. My fingers are so affected by the cold that they are stiff and swollen, letting me barely be able to bend them. It's a struggle just to hold on to my book.

Hearing him call me that made Zariah stir and made me melt inside a little. I had done it. I had escaped my ass hole rejected mate and found my second chance mate. I still had a lot to do but I had Amelia, Kyle, Dominic and Emron to help me. I didn't know what would happen but I wasn't completely worried about it and neither was Zariah. I would rescue my pack though from Elstan, I owed them that much. I just hoped it wouldn't be too late. END BOOK ONE

Right before my eyes I could see it pulling apart and the nails started to grow longer, thicker and into a sharpened point. The itching and crawling gradually turned into a boiling heat that arose from the tips of my toes, then shot all the way through my body. I was about to scream out again, feeling the burn making it’s to my heart, but my hands clutched my throat as, no scream, no voice, nothing could get out. My eyes were wide with fright, staring only at the sky, and every part of me started to shake involuntarily. “ELLIE, ELLIE, LIE BACK, TRY TO STAY CALM!”. I could hear the faint shouts of Zekan as a loud, high pitched buzzing rang through my ears and echoed all around my head.

Even when a searing fire rose in her chest, and terrifying cramps pierced her lower abdomen, she kept moving, praying she was heading in the right direction. Pure relief took over her when she broke through the clearing and saw the colourful tents and cars, but she was so exhausted, and out of breath she couldn't take another step. She fell to her knees and dropped the basket beside her just as Arno emerged from one of the tents, the coarse sand digging and scraping the soft flesh of her palms. "кума! What happened to you?" he cried as he scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the fire pit, calling for help as he sat her down in one of the camp chairs.

Even through the protective barriers, she could feel the temperature plunging rapidly. "The super-cold front..." Her expression became serious. It had arrived earlier than expected. And judging from the speed at which the temperature was dropping, the other bases were unlikely to have been prepared for it. Across the apocalypse, countless survivors were about to face an unprecedented disaster. Buildings that had survived the eight months could freeze overnight, while water supplies could turn into solid ice. Those without sufficient heating would be exposed to the cold, and even mutated beasts and monsters might behave differently under such extreme conditions.

The cold was an ache, a deep, penetrating thing that went beyond flesh and settled in my bones. Time lost all meaning. Was it minutes? Hours? The world was reduced to a sphere of white pain a few feet in front of my face. My only companions were the howl of the wind and the frantic, thudding beat of my own heart. I walked. I stumbled. I fell. I got up. I walked again. In the back of my mind, a question burned, a single point of heat in the frozen wasteland. Who was Daniel Rovik? Who was the woman in the snow? Who was the person sending the texts?

Chris was expecting to be blinded by the light of the new world but was disappointed to discover that the world was no longer bright, but a dark and colorless field of nothingness. Chris stepped out into the abyss and turned on his headlamp. He could no longer feel the cold air. He watched as a light breeze kicked up ash and carried it through the dark grey sky. Chris now understood the gravity of their situation. They were survivors of a horrible disaster. No one was coming to save them. He grew to understand and accept the fact that he would never see the faces of those he loved outside the walls of the bunker. Chris’s emotions had shifted from despair to anger. He was angry with himself.

Chance just chuckled, remaining on his side. _____ Hours seemed to pass, and Zara was shivering violently despite the sheet. The cold was a physical ache… she felt like she was going to die if the storm didn't let up. Suddenly, the lights flickered violently and plunged the room into pitch blackness. Chance groaned in frustration, turning his head toward her trembling form.

Chapter 44 – Beneath the Surface Cold swallowed her whole. Not the clean, sharp cold of the pool’s surface, but a deep, crushing chill that seeped into her bones and stripped the air from her lungs. The world tilted into disorientation—no up, no down—just currents that twisted around her like invisible hands. Shadows swirled in the murk, shapes that seemed almost familiar before dissolving again into the dark. Her heartbeat thundered in her ears, a panicked drumbeat counting down the seconds she had left before she drowned.

Principal Badminton said inwardly wishing he could cancel the trip but once again he had to remind himself that it was the kids idea and if their parents are okay then he should be okay, though he could bet that none of the parents were really informed about Bear forest or if they did, none seem bothered to let their children go out to the wilds where twenty five people got lost and not a body was even found. Well, Callum and his guide are there with them, Jack Daniels was a survivalist before he became a teacher in the school. All should go well he hoped. "The bus should be back before sundown." Principal Badminton asked Mr. Daniels whom answered in the affirmative. "Emma Winston Faber?." T
