] The mechanical voice rang in my ears. At the same second, the power grid died. The internet cut out. Lights in the distance blinked off one by one. It felt like someone hit pause on the world. Even the rustle of leaves sounded sharp. I eased up to the booth window and looked out. Inside my old apartment stood three figures—Alan, Bella, and Dylan. Of course they'd teamed up. A loudspeaker slid out the window. Alan's voice blasted across the complex. "Everyone, the apocalypse has started. I know you're looking for protection. I've got Caucasian Shepherds, a lion, and crocodiles. Any one of them can handle zombies. If you don't want to die, come join me. However..."

Not even after death. Ten years in the apocalypse were brutal. Surviving alone was hard, but running from an obsessed brother with powers was another kind of hell. Vera learned to sleep lightly, hide her tracks, lie with a straight face, fight dirty, and leave before anyone could decide she was useful enough to trap. She killed zombies, mutants, mutated animals, and people who had stopped being better than the dead. She survived heat, cold, hunger, poison rain, infected wounds, broken shelters, and nights when she had to stay awake because the scratching outside the walls did not stop.

The yard was a minefield of trenches, and the living room was packed to the ceiling with crates of cup noodles and survival crackers I'd hoarded online. There wasn't even room to walk. He stood before an expensive rug pinned beneath boxes of survival crackers, his expression darkening. "Phoebe, what is all this?" I rushed over, dragged him into the bedroom, and locked the door behind us with an air of absolute secrecy. "Honey, I need to tell you something huge. The apocalypse is coming." Gabriel stared at me, his eyes full of complex emotions. He reached out and felt my forehead, but I had no fever.

I shouted and coughed . I ran passed the living room only to reverse back .. My heart dropped at the sight in front of me . Mom laid on the floor in a pool of blood naked while PAPI was tied to a chair with a knife through his chest . " NOOOOOO... PAPI ...MOM... PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME ...NO NO NO NO....." I yelled and ran and got on my knees next to mom and shook her to wake up " MOM ...MOM.... PLEASE WAKE UP...I CAN'T BE ON MY OWN ... PLEASE MOM..PAPI ..PA..PA...PAPI... TAKE ME WITH YOU..." I cried out loud and cough because the fire was getting wild

There were only rumors, no official announcements. If there is no guarantee, she would like at least her brother and father to survive intact. Some may call her cold hearted and ruthless.. but.. which person is not cold hearted and ruthless after surviving an apocalypse?

He looked at the carnage around him, his face a blank slate of shock. And that’s when it hit me. The final, fragile illusion of society, of order, of help, shattered into a million pieces. This wasn’t a riot. This wasn’t a temporary crisis. The men in biohazard suits, the chained gurneys, the bloody cough, the biting… the gunshot executing the infected. This was the end. The world wasn’t going crazy. The world was gone. This island, this hospital, this room—this was the new world. Shit. This is the apocalypse.

The fissure had long since closed over. People moved through it like any other street corner, but someone had lined the edge with white roses and small bouquets, and here and there were snacks and drinks left among them. I wasn't the only one who had lost someone that day. In the apocalypse, no one came through untouched. But it was over now. That was what mattered. I sniffled quietly, set my white roses down, then slipped the small pink backpack from my shoulder and left it there too. The wind moved through the trees. I crouched down and pressed my hand flat against the ground.

She rolled her eyes but put the gun on its stand. ‘It is unloaded, and the safety is on. It isn’t my first time holding a gun.’ She said, reaching for the MRE packets and reading them. I went to the small bathroom and checked the faucet and lo and behold there was running water still. Alice came to see when she heard the sound of water. ‘What is that place?’ She signed her eyes wide with wonder and excitement. I chuckled. “I think this place belonged to one of those survivalists, but I guess he wasn’t living in this world anymore.” Alice hummed and went back to the supply room.

If Ruth consumes blood, it might awaken her zombie instincts! [Dan’s group just had a tire blowout. They’re surrounded by a zombie horde right now. Ruth and I occupied a villa complex halfway up a mountain. It was easy to defend and hard to attack, and supplies were plentiful.

Nobody survived this apocalypse, built a massive black-market trading network, and stayed clean. The man wiped blood from his face and gave Nicole and Zeph a weak smile. "Thank you for helping us." "Not a big deal." Now that she saw they were alive, Nicole started thinking about the two darlings waiting at home. She didn't bother with more small talk and turned to leave. "Wait." The man stopped them. "My name's Sven Lindberg. I still don't know your names, or where you live." In the apocalypse, no sane person asked strangers for their names and addresses. Even if somebody dared to ask, that didn't mean the other person would answer.
