Despite everything, a small smile tugs at my lips.
The pack house is quieter at night, its corridors lit by soft amber torches. Our footsteps echo as we move swiftly, avoiding the main halls. Aria leads like she knows exactly where she’s going down a narrow stairwell, past an unused sitting room, to a heavy wooden door etched with old symbols.
“The library’s been here longer than some parts of the pack house itself,” she whispers as she pushes it open. “Most people forget that.”
Inside, the air is cool and smells of dust, parchment, and ink. Shelves stretch from floor to ceiling, packed tightly with ancient books and scrolls. Some are bound in leather, others in cracked wood, their spines ma
