Chapter: 21 ******* TALON: The weight of the world pressed down on my chest as I lay in bed, the familiar scent of my sheets mingling with the metallic tang of my tears. I didn’t care that I was ruining them; I barely cared about anything anymore. All that mattered was this suffocating grief that wrapped itself around me like a shroud. I let the tears fall, my face buried in the fabric, wishing that if I cried enough, I could wash away the memory of that fateful afternoon—the moment I had bitten into Altair.

I could see the anger in his eyes for being deprived of the opportunity to end Matthew's life, but I was glad it wasn't him. As much as I wanted Matthew dead for what he did to me I didn't want Nicholas to be a murderer because of me. I didn't want the blood of someone like that or anyone to be on him. Whatever he did before was in the past but now that I met him I wanted to start a clean slate with him. "I could not believe that I almost died," I admitted to him, "it was so scary." He held my hand and I felt deep strength in his touch.

But quiet, the way something goes quiet when it is confused by what it is being given, when the territory it is trained to exploit has been temporarily replaced by something it does not know how to use. Genuine remorse. The curse can use pride. It can use anger and jealousy and cruelty and the specific violence of wounded love. It cannot use genuine remorse because genuine remorse is not a weapon and the curse is a collection of weapons. I look at my son's open face in the mirror. I think about twenty-three years. I think about a grimoire and a candle and a night I have replayed ten thousand times, and I think about what it costs to love something you have broken, which is a cost I know well

Hopefully he wasn’t caught, or maybe it would be much better if he was caught, so they could put an end to all these nonsense. Tears welled in her eyes, it was almost as though she could see all the parts he had touched her, she was tainted in the ugly blue color of his eyes, she felt herself heave and then retched into the bowl. A bitter sob escaped her, as she got into the shower, and for the next thirty minutes, she tried to scrub away those ugly color she could see, but no matter how much she washed herself, she could still feel his touch, she could still sense his breath, and the ugly taste of his mouth and it irritated her even more.

"That rope around my mother's neck... that rope that killed my mom, that thing brought a great fear in me. It's killing me. It's a painful souvenir from the past that always haunts me. H-how can I m-move on, Levi?" Slowly, he looked at me. What even broke my heart was to see him crying again. He was supposedly laughing with me, eating with me with his usual happy face, and teasing me to hell, but with his eyes looking at me so helplessly, and sobbing out his grief made me feel so bad about him. A broken heart transfigured with a funny personality. "Caius..." I whispered as I tapped his shoulder. "I'm t-tired..." he mumbled under his breath.

That song, was the mark that means the end of the game. She cried and cried her eyes out in joy. 'Thank god,' she said inside her heart. 'I have survived another day of the hunt.' —

I move around the stage to the front just as London comes in with his cue. "You know who I am," he sings in a drawling manner, "You know you want to give in. You think you've gotten rid of me?" "Well think again," he whispers. "No!" I sing, taking my cue, "You think you got me figured out? You think I'm all stars and rainbows! I'm a good girl, church girl, nerd girl! You make me wanna do unsavory things!" "Oh come on, little birdy, don't be like that! You know you're only gonna fall right into my lap. Think they got your back? Hell, you know that you're trapped. Just give into temptation, let my music fix that."

Murderer! Wait for your karma to destroy you as you destroyed them," The voice kept on echoing. I covered my ears in horror. I screamed but I couldn't find a single soul that could offer me a helping hand. A bitter silence hung between them, the air thick with the weight of unspoken sorrow. “I’m sorry, Alpha Talon,” the Beta added quietly. “But... your Luna... there’s little hope for her survival.” The words reverberated through Alpha Talon’s mind, each one a crushing blow. His vision blurred as dizziness and grief overwhelmed him, and he collapsed to his knees, shaking with raw, uncontrollable emotion.
