It was red with black tribal tattoos on its face and amber yellow eyes. At the sight of those eyes, a cold chill ran up my back that could have frozen fire in mid burn. I froze in what seemed like terror that started deep in my gut.

My phone beeped again and again and again and this to me I couldn't hold it in anymore, I tapped on the message and I froze. I could feel a sweat stop just below my thigh, the number was an unknown one and there was a warning message. "It's better to stay away from him or I'll do it myself." The message itself was terrifying and then just next to the message was series of pictures and I wasn't ready for what they contained. My eyes widened in shock but I couldn't let out a sound, the kind of shock that kept me on my toes.

They had big, bat-like wings, long claws, and animal-like faces that gave me the creeps. "Of course, we'll never know what they really looked like, but it's cool to imagine a world where creatures like that exist." My eyes flutter open, and I find myself in an unfamiliar place. Terror courses through me as I take in my surroundings — cages lining the walls, each holding a variety of creatures: humans, werewolves, lycans, mermaids, and more. The air is heavy with fear and desperation, and I can feel the palpable sense of despair emanating from my fellow captives.

Inside, wrapped in layers of thick, dark tissue paper, was a heavy, matte-black wooden picture frame. I pulled the frame out of the box, turning it over to look at the glass side. The moment my eyes registered the image beneath the glass, the air was violently sucked from my lungs, and my knees gave out completely.
