Leaving You Bereft
A nurse leaned close and said softly, "Mrs. Ziegler, you should try to sleep. Mr. Ziegler may be tied up for a while yet."
Thalia nodded, stretching out a hand. "Bring me 'The Little Prince'."
The nurse handed it to her.
She tried to turn the pages but doubled over with a fit of coughing. She pressed the thick book against her thin chest and told the nurse to go rest.
The nurse hesitated, worried, but Thalia assured her she felt all right tonight.
Once the nurse left, Thalia read a few pages. Later, she pushed the covers back and slowly made her way to the vanity. Just a few steps left her gasping for air.
