He had said with a smile on her face. “Thank you for that cookie. It saved my life” she says, tears falling from the slits of her eyes as I pull her in my arms. She was the only person I could ever call a friend “thank you for believing in me. Thank you for being my friend,” I say to her as her hand falls to the ground. “No!” I screamed, the voice coming out a bit huskier than it normally is.

She risked her life for me. “Skylar,” I started, my voice was raw, cracking and it was barely above a whisper. “Thank you. I know I’ve said this before but no amount of thank yous I say would ever be enough to appreciate what you have done and what you did for me minutes ago.” She lifted a brow, shifting her weight. “For what? I did it for my best friend.” I let out a quiet laugh, though it held no humor as it echoed off the walls. “No, you saved me. You stopped the total just in time and I’ll forever be indebted to you.”

Despite the hardships in Maxine's life, she found solace in how it all came to an end. "I couldn't ask you to be my friend. But with these words, I can thank you for everything you've done for me."

"You've already done so much for me. I don't even know how to repay your kindness. I'm truly grateful to have a friend like you." "I'm helping you because I want to, Nadine. We're friends. So don't ever think you have to repay me." This time, Nadine could no longer hold back her tears. They rolled slowly down her cheeks. "Thank you..." she whispered, her voice trembling. I paused, "Before you both say anything," I scrambled towards Al, standing before him I was close, too close. So I stepped back a little, cleaning my throat in awkwardness, I didn't want to give Amber more reasons to hate me, "I want to thank you both, for— being my friends, constantly putting your lives in danger, and I want to remember... I want to remember so bad—" I glimpsed at Amber, who simply rolled her eyes, "So..." I continued, "Thank you."

I smiled before hugging my friend. "Thank you, Trish. Thank you...” *******

“I’m in your corner, okay? We’re friends, and we’ll always be friends.” Just like that, another weight lifted off of me. “Thank you,” I whispered to her, afraid to speak louder, that my voice might break. “No need for that.” She playfully pushed my shoulder. “Friends mess up sometimes. They hurt each other. But they make up again and everything’s fine. People are people. Nobody’s perfect. You’ll never have to thank me for being your friend.” I didn’t quite agree. I hadn’t had friends before her. I held nothing but gratitude in my heart for her kindness and friendship. But if she didn’t want me to tell her that aloud, then I’d keep it inside instead.
