Gregory hesitated, obviously warring with himself whether or not to shift back. Finally, I could see his wolf relent; and the boy slowly shifted back. His head was hung as he stood in the surf, sadness weighing heavily on him. “I’m so sorry…” he finally said, a sob catching in his chest.
I went up to him and draped an arm on his shoulders. “Hey, buddy, there’s nothing to be sorry about. Why would you be sorry?”
“I’m useless to the pack, especially now that another alpha is needed. I’m just a stupid beta.”
