Alistair nodded and gave me a small smile. I smiled back.

We fight hard, and I take down my fair share of enemies, but it’s nearly impossible to stay out of the path of Malcolm’s poisoned weapon. Nash catches my eye, nodding, letting me know he has a plan. I see him rush toward Brandon, the Alpha of the Flagstaff pack, jumping on him and sinking his teeth into Brandon’s throat. They thrash about, each fighting as hard as they can, but then, as I watch helplessly, Malcolm approaches them from behind and lays the whip hard across Nash’s back. My beloved, my mate, my Alpha, falls into an unmoving heap as Brandon slinks out from under his limp body, his face bloodied.

I flinched. "You," he said, his warm breath tickling my skin. It would've made my heart flutter once more if only his voice didn't carry a menacing tone. "You were messing with another werewolf while I wasn't around." I cursed in my head and bit my lower lip. I was in so much hurry to see him that I wasn't able to think about taking a bath first to wash off the smell of Enzo's pheromones. Alpha werewolves are extremely possessive towards their partners, I remember him telling me a few days back while he was briefing me about his plan to use me to lure Dylan out of hiding.

He tossed his wrench into the toolbox with a loud metallic clatter. "Like I just said," I started to clarify. "I went to see the Alpha to ask him for a favor. He told me that his mate's apartment had been trashed by rogues. Not only do we have a hunter problem on our hands, but we have rogues to contend with too." Our Alpha had his own problems to deal with. His mate was still underage and didn't know that she was his mate — didn’t even know she was a hybrid — nor had she and the Alpha been introduced for this exact reason. His problems made ours seem mediocre in comparison.
