Leslie asked, her voice sounding bitter, though she was trying to suppress her emotions.
“Yes,” I answered with a steely gaze at her.
There was another moment of what felt like stunned silence, and then Mum cleared her throat.
“Rory and Todd have been best friends since they were kids. I don’t think it’s necessary to prevent them from being friends,” she said nervously.
“Okay,” Mr. Williams said, interrupting his wife as she was about to speak. “That’s okay. Let the boy have whatever he wants.”
“For now. I think we have talked about what is most important,” he said, and he stood up smoothly. “We should take our leave now.”
