She blinked a few times to clear her eyes and, when she finally regained her vision, standing before her was a tall, dark mystery man staring down at her. His eyes were staring straight into hers with pure lust. It took her by surprise but her heart sped up to a frantic beat and she squeezed her legs together beneath the table. Just one look at this man and she wanted him. Gabbi blinked a few more times and looked down at the table. Get it together, Gabbi. She chastized herself then took a deep breath. Finally, she looked back up at the man. His eyes were literally drinking her in as he reached forward to set a copy of her book before her.

Perhaps he knew that he was in the wrong, for he didn't avoid the glass at all. Instead, he chose to face my rage head-on. As such, his forehead began bleeding after the glass crashed into his head.

My eyes blurred in and out of focus, the light in the room was blinding. “Focus, you need to calm down, slow your breathing, focus on the sound of your heart beating”. Her breath was hot on my ear as she seductively whispered. Breathing in and out, the sound of my heart beating became louder and louder, all the background noise fades. I was able to single out sounds by isolating and focussing on them, my vision was sharp, I stared at the bookshelf, focussing on the tiny words etched on the cover. I was able to read them, shocked I looked at Lenore.

Her mouth was open and closed as she looked down unsure to name the number of hours as she herself has no idea about how many hours would she take to complete the book. "Let it be". He dropped the book down gaining her eye's attention to him as at the same time he looked up at her. And damn the sudden eye connection sent sparks in his body as his eyes connected with her large crystal shining eyes. Her eyes are giving a look of pure innocence. He wonders if she felt the same sparkling sensation too when her eyes met his. Blinking away he continued. "This is enough. I'm being enough merciful to let go this time. But one more complaint and one more disobedience....you remember my words".

Their weak yellow light barely reached the far corners of the room where endless shelves disappeared into shadow. Books. Jars. Strange statues. Animal skulls. A stuffed raven with one glass eye. A cracked mirror. The place looked less like a shop and more like a nightmare someone decided to organize alphabetically. I almost turned around. Then I remembered the ring of fire. Remembered Kali. And stayed. A movement near the counter caught my attention. An old man emerged from behind a stack of books. He had one eye and a slash mark running over the part of his face where an eye was supposed to be.

Cindy held it out and nodded for me to take it. "What is this?" I asked, feeling hesitant. Creepy or weird didn't adequately describe the tome. Bizarre was close. I n the center of the cover was an eye. It looked real, like a lizard's. A scaly face in a combination of violets and reds surrounded the eye. It blinked then seemed to focus on me. "Can the eye see me?" Cindy laughed. "Probably. The book is known as the Eye of Abernathy, the first and most powerful dragon ever to have lived on Earth."

He titled his head down so that his half closed eyes were focused on the page from behind the round reading glasses he wore, strands of his hair, dropping over the rims of the glass. On reaching the end of the table, I threw the book loudly on the table close to his feet. If he didn't see me coming it, at least that would draw me his attention no matter what. And it did. Immediately, he blinked in slow motion, his eyes drawing to the text on the table. He closes the book in his hands and places it on his laps nearer to his groin before dropping his pedicured feet from the table. Then finally, he raises his eyes and they settle faintly on mine.

They were not the eyes of any person living or dead that Elowen Vayne had ever seen in her twenty years on the earth — and they knew her. She felt them know her. She tried to scream. No sound came out. The eyes blinked once, slowly, the way a person blinks who is sad and tired and sorry and patient all at the same time. Then they were gone.

Letting out a sigh, she intended to close the book when she flipped open the last page and the writings on it caused her feet to step backward, shock enveloping her every being. Her eyelids snapped shut. Perhaps it was her eyes playing tricks on her? Was it simply a mirage? But as she opened her eyes again and stared at the paper, the writings on it staring back at her, she felt the blood drain from her body immediately, her eyes skimming through the page.

Crystal’s hands were shaking, she dropped the book down, and the book landed with a thud on the carpet. Her eyes were nearly wide, her pupils dilated in shock. It was as if time stopped, and everything suddenly went blank. Not a single sound could be heard, she was literally blank.
