“Some of his books ended up in the library at school—anything dealing with the gods.” Eliza swept the sidewalk around them with her eyes to make sure no one was paying them any attention.
“Oh, okay. Right. He was a demigod?”
She nodded. “Some of the founding fathers were.”
“It’s so . . . weird. I mean they all did things that were incredible, like no regular person could do. And now it all makes sense.”
“Mm-hmm,” she confirmed. “Much of this country’s founding was really a dedication to the gods—the architecture, the sculptures, the paintings, symbolism, all of it. Athena herself invested time in the founding of this country.”
