I get her to her room, then make sure her maids are there to help her before I leave. My things have been moved to a different part of the castle since my bedroom was demolished. However, tonight, I walk into the room that used to be mine and I stare at the crumbled remains. My father must have been standing across from the egg. The only logical explanation is that the thief entered my bedroom to get the egg and my father confronted him. The thief has to be a rider, a silver rider, since it was a silver who destroyed my bedroom. Perhaps the rider called out to their dragon, knowing they’d been caught and the dragon destroyed the room to save them.

I sighed and leaned back and heard something click behind me. Quickly sitting upright, I turned to see what had made the sound and realized that the fake pillow had moved! Another click echoed through the room and this time a compartment opened in the armrest of the enormous cement throne. I took a peek and inside there was a book. An ancient book by the looks of things. I looked at Freya with wide eyes and then looked at the book again.

I took off to the nearest bush and hide behind it. The door opened and two boys came out. They were-- shit. They had guns. And they did not look like good people at all. One of them had a scar across his face. They were in their 20s. The early 20s. As they left, I entered the house and saw Max sitting on the couch with his head down. “Max?” I called him and he looked up. He had a scar on his face. A quite big one. On side of his face which went from like his forehead to ear. There was… blood.

ALPHA MAX CHAPTER 29: "Where the fuck are they?" Max asked coldly to his warriors, especially Giovanni and Zerxes. He was pissed. He was mad that his mate and her bodyguard were kidnapped by stupid rogues. As he predicted, she was going to be fucking manipulated by those assholes. "Alpha, we have leads." He asked, staring at Lily as she held the book he gave her to read firmly to her chest. “Oh, Lily is confused about the book she is reading and she doesn't want me to help her with it.” Max replied and Axel rolled his eyes. “If she doesn't want you to help her then don't. Come on.” He said and walked ahead of him towards the hallway. Max smiled at Lily before trailing behind Axel. They got to Axel’s study and he searched around for the file Max came to pick up. Max couldn't stop thinking about the book, he had no idea why he was so curious about it.

Ambrose had disappeared, and now Larissa had gone missing as well. He had to find Larissa no matter what! He swore that he was going to make the people behind this pay for their actions! Max stepped into the run-down warehouse alone. Inside, the floor was damp. Dust covered the whole place. Suddenly, a click echoed through the space. It sounded like a mechanism activating somewhere. Max felt his body sway and the ground beneath him suddenly split open.

His change of tone causes me to cower in my chair as I wonder about what the evil man meant. I hear water hit the floor on the side of me and that's when I see him. Max jerks awake in his chair and quickly looks around the room. When his eyes land on me he starts to panic and tries to get out of the chair. The evil man hits him in the face. The hit is so loud that it causes me to flinch as I cry. He looks at me as he hits Max again and I cry louder.

I hoped it was useful, and not just someone’s diary. Max was waiting in the tunnel outside the chamber when I returned. I didn’t tell him about the book—for now, I kept it tucked into the inner pocket of my jacket, where no one would find it. False hopes and all that. We walked back through the tunnel in companionable silence. Max stayed close to me this time, close enough that our arms occasionally brushed. He looked sad, but more at peace, like visiting the last known place his father had been was a relief that he needed.

Small and bright with good light and walls that needed painting and a kitchen that actually worked. Completely mine. Max helped me move boxes. He was extremely vocal about the weight of every single one. “What is in this?” he said, dropping a box onto the floor. “Books,” I said. “You don’t own this many books.” “Grayson gave me some.” Max looked at the box. Then at me. “He gave you books.” “From the Queens bookshop,” I said. “He went back.” Max was quiet for a moment. “Okay,” he said. “I like him.”
