The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read Novels & Stories

He went over and read one. I wish that I didn’t have to move. I wish that Dad’s didn’t have to go to California. Also, I wish for a puppy that doesn't make me sneeze. The innocence of the wish hit him like a hard punch to the gut. He read the next snowflake. I wish my mom didn’t have to worry about her job. I wish that she could be happy again. Also, I wish for a unicorn. That one was marked with Molly’s name.

I stand there for a long moment in a room where my parents’ entire story apparently began, holding the exact object that has shaped so much of what’s happened to my family this past year. Eli watches me quietly, saying nothing. I look down at the book in my hands, at the cracked leather cover, at everything it apparently represents, decades of history, betrayal, blackmail, blood. “This stupid book,” I say finally, “has ruined enough lives. This ends.”

My father had the huge library of all the books related to the super naturals, whether they are witches, warlocks or vampires or even the gods. Although, it had nothing in comparison to the books of library but still it was a valuable collection. At least in my father’s eyes. “But why are you reading this book? Do you want to summon some god? She asked finally and I know she was trying to enquire if I was planning something. “I don’t know, I was bore so I picked something to read.” I lied again turning the page. “I told you this won’t help him. or you.” She said and this time there was a ping of disappointment on her face. I closed the book and threw it on the ground. The book was old just l

If my dad knew one thing, it was designer. I gave her mine last. It’s like she knew it was going to be something meaningful. Everyone got quiet and watched her as she slowly unwrapped the huge book. I’d worked weeks on it. Ever since I’d gotten that picture of her parents .. it made me think she would appreciate something like this. It was a memory book of sorts. Kind of like a scrap book. I’d secretly asked Bridge to help me find the book itself. And she did not disappoint. She’d found it at some craft store and the thing was huge.

Good thing that I’m not a witch. As soon as I thought about that, the book opened without me touching it. “How did that happen?” I asked myself, breathing heavily. I looked at the page, it opened, and it read about different spells. I closed the book violently and shook my head. “I’m not a witch; both my parents were werewolves. There is no way I’m a witch,” the book opened again to that exact page, and I screamed a little.

I poured my heart into every chapter, writing late at night when the house was quiet, letting my memories guide me as my words took shape on the page. What I hadn’t expected was how profoundly the book would resonate with others. Emails began trickling in at first, then letters, messages on social media, even handwritten notes that smelled faintly of ink and hope. And depending on what she found, would depend on if the book would even be there tomorrow. Sitting on the ledge on a window not too far from the fire she placed the book behind her and opened the letter first. Hopefully, she would have enough strength from the letter to open the book and read it. There were two pages in the letter and each one was written by each of her parents. Both of them expressed their feelings about what she was doing and now they thought that she was brave and foolish as well. Her father said that he wished could come back and that he needed her to be here so that her mother would continue to be happy. He was happy that she was sticking up for what she wanted but was
