You’ll wear the most beautiful wedding dress.” Zack frowned and kicked him away. “Don’t touch my wife.” Watching Shawn fall to the ground, I thought of the child I had lost, and my eyes welled up with tears. “Shawn, you disgust me.” My whole body trembled, but the tears still flowed down my cheeks. “Five years ago, when you made me wear a bridesmaid’s dress, I was carrying your child! That night, you never came looking for me in that heavy rain. You didn’t care whether a pregnant woman like me might be in danger.

as he held my hand and helped me climb the stairs to the stage. It was a strange feeling as he held my hand. Everyone was looking very happy. But it seemed he was sad. I could understand his state of mind. He was actually in love with someone else and was supposed to get married to her. And here he was getting married to me instead. The girl, whom he always avoided like plague. What should I expect from him in this marriage,I was just a substitute bride to him. After all I have always kept the feelings I had for him to my self.

The hanging crystal chandelier mirrored the light that came from the moon outside, casting slivers of subtle colors around the bed. This almost felt romantic, but I knew better than to think like that. My childhood innocence and dreams had long been gone, taken away by the cruelty of my world. I knew there was something better somewhere. But I’d be too naive to think this marriage was going to give me that. After all, I was just a trade off for peace. But Laurence is stuck in London. The Montefalcos won't wait. So, you are going to be his substitute. You will marry the girl and play the part for one year until your brother is ready to take over." My jaw tightened. A substitute? I was being used as a placeholder for my own brother. The insult stung more than the marriage itself. "And who is the lucky girl?" I asked, my voice dripping with venom. "Is it Aria? That mousy girl who followed me around like a lost puppy in freshman year?"
