The men advanced, their footsteps heavy against the concrete floor, echoing through the vast emptiness of the warehouse. Each step seemed to amplify the hopelessness of their situation, the realization that this could be the end. Sophia tightened her grip on Ethan’s hand, her heart thundering in her chest. Beside her, Lily clung to her, her eyes wide with terror. Sophia’s mind raced, searching for a way out, a miracle that would save them. But there was nothing. No escape, no allies, only the cold, hard truth that they were trapped.

The chandelier behind them glittered like a thousand shards of broken glass reflected across the screen. My heart didn’t simply ache. It broke. Not gradually. Not subtly. Not quietly. A beautiful, painful lie. I walked over to the photo and picked it up. I looked at our smiling faces, at the way he was holding me, at the love that I thought was real. And then, I smashed it against the wall. Glass shattered, raining down on the floor. The frame fell to the ground with a loud thud. I didn't even flinch. I just stood there, watching the broken glass glitter on the floor, a symbol of my broken heart. It was over. I walked out of the penthouse, not once looking back.

Something cracks in my chest, and the first of the uncontrollable sobs breaks free from my soul, wracking my body. Sebastian, Gabriel and Ethan host the service. I’m sure their words are heartfelt, sweet and honour the dead as they should. But I don’t hear it. I can’t hear anything over how my heart is breaking inside.
