Sure enough, the sound of blaring music and unintelligible shouting came through the line. "Claire! Do you hear me? You think you’re safe with that jerk?" Arthur’s voice was slurred and emotional. "I know something, Claire! Your husband... he doesn’t have proper civil records in this city! I hired someone to look into him, and he’s a ghost! He has a dirty secret that could destroy us all!" Claire looked at Julian in panic, but Julian looked surprisingly calm. There was no flash of fear in his eyes. Instead, he reached for the phone from Claire’s hand with a quick and steady movement.

He winked at her with a playful smirk. "And why would I believe you? Why would my husband ask someone like you to pick me up? What is the proof?" His smirk widened and his pupils dilated, Lily noticed and got goosebumps the second she did. “Someone like me? What does that exactly mean sweetheart?" His hand brushed a strand out of Lily's face. She flinched and moved back, the man held her thighs and pulled her towards him. "I don't give a damn if you believe me or not, that is not my job, but I feel too sorry for you, imagine having a husband who sells you to a mafia for a week to enjoy with his side chick. Doesn't that sound pitiful ?"

She didn’t like the way her husband was admiring her but didn’t have the nerve to say it and kept tugging on his sleeves. “Trust me, she can’t afford it. She’s just some nerd from school.” Avery realized that Riley wasn’t proud of her husband but even Avery was speechless to see her with such a man. The guys Riley dated were usually hot and rich. This man seemed like he was rich but wasn’t attractive to the eyes. Had she been married all along? Avery was speechless but it was good to not be the only young one married, though Riley was at least two years older than her.

Mikhail brought up his hands in a mock surrender gesture and cleared his throat. “ It's a sensitive matter and it’s meant for your ears alone,” Mikhail glanced at the guards as he said this. Jaxon understood what he made and dismissively waved his hand in the guards direction. They all bowed and walked out of the apartment. After Mikhail heard the door click he sat upright and looked directly into Jaxons eyes. “It’s regarding your wife… she is not who she appears to be” Jaxon felt like bashing his face in. “ You seriously dragged me all the way from New York to talk about my wife? Do you think I’m so stupid that I wouldn’t carry out a background check on the woman I’m married to?” Jaxon angr

I wouldn’t understand something like that, so I must sound annoying," he said, though he clearly had no regrets. I almost regretted saving him, yet despite my coldness, he only moved closer. "I’m sorry, doctor. I was only trying to help. It’s my way of thanking you," he said, his voice smooth. "If your problem is a husband who seems cold—who acts like he doesn’t love you anymore—I know how to fix that."

I felt like I was holding an ice cube. He gently shook his head. I don't know why my husband is doing this? Why is he acting like this? I can't understand him! He took away my hand that was holding his face. Anger appeared in his eyes. But he is still cold and emotionless. No! He looked into my eyes. Sadness appears through his eyes towards me. The man steps in like he owns the goddamn room, my breath stops and I can barely suck in any oxygen because it feels like he has sucked it all out of the room. “That’s Dr. Ian Quinn. Your husband.” he repeats. I frown. “My husband?” My brows draw tighter. “Why would I have such a cold insufferable man as my husband?” I hate how he looks at me with so much coldness. I saw how he hesitated to stay when he was asked to. My heart boils at the pity in their eyes.
