Finding Us
“I like you.”
My heart stops with a thud, then starts to palpitate.
“A lot,” he adds. “I never realized it until we stopped being close. Until I hurt you.”
He says nothing else, and I wonder if he expects a reply.
I like him too, but after everything, I know there can't be an us. For now, at least. Maybe a couple of years later, if our feelings don't change, I might agree.
“You're a good person, Debby,” he says, and I finally look at him.
