The Ex Assignment Novels & Stories

ALEX There are only two things I truly regret this afternoon. 1. Letting Luca pick the restaurant. 2. Me agreeing to hang out with my so-called friends when they’ve had more than one drink in them. “I’m just saying,” Luca leans back in his chair, swirling his whiskey like he’s in a bad mafia movie, “you’ve fallen for your ex-wife.” “You’re drunk.” I reply, stabbing a piece of steak with more aggression than necessary. “ And I haven’t fallen for anyone.”

“But I didn’t request a lease extension.” Silence. Then: “Oh.” I rub my temples. “So let me understand. Because of a clerical mix-up, I’m now without a place to stay?” “Not at all! You’ve been placed in a fully furnished unit—” I glance at the email attachment again. “This ‘unit’ belongs to James Burrows.” Kayla hums like she’s reviewing a file. “Correct.” I take a deep breath. “James Burrows. My ex.” A very, very long pause.

"Everything you need is on there. I hope it helps you bring that bastard down." Emiliana feels a sense of satisfaction wash over her as she watches the journalist take the flash drive. They've been working tirelessly for days, and finally, they have what they need to expose the camp director's embezzlement scheme. As they walk back to their campsite, Emiliana can't help but feel a sense of apprehension. They're so close to the truth now, but she knows that their actions will have consequences. The next day, they meet with the camp director, armed with the evidence they've gathered. They present him with the documents, emails, and recordings, watching as his face turns pale with fear.

This has to be my secret. “Hush down everyone, take your seats and open your books at page one-hundred and eleven. We’re talking about the elasticity of demand today, on a higher level and deep diving into some data. I want your assignments left on my desk as you leave. I’ll be grading tonight so when you all return on Wednesday you’ll know if you have to do another assignment.” God, I can’t stand this woman, she is my least favorite tutor, what someone needs to do is buy her a fucking dildo and show her how to use it.

“Let me guess. Callahan either fired you or knighted you.” I tossed the press badge onto his desk. He picked it up, read it, gave a low whistle. “Well, well. Someone just got upgraded.” “They reassigned the project,” I said. “I’m leading it now.” His eyebrows lifted. “Alone?” I nodded. “Effective immediately.” He leaned back slowly, still holding the badge. “Interesting.” “That’s it? Just ‘interesting’?” “I mean, I could be dramatic if it helps your ego.” I folded my arms. “I just thought you should hear it from me before the office rumor mill delivers it with a fireworks display.”

"The rain outside is very heavy, honey. Are you okay?" Aurora bit her lower lip hard, holding back so that a moan or strange sound wouldn't escape from her mouth as Ethan's fingers began to rub her waist in a tempting, circular movement. "I-I have an additional assignment that must be finished immediately... met Tama earlier, so we decided to work on it together so it would finish quickly." Hearing the name Tama—Aurora's campus friend whom he knew—Richard sounded a bit more calm. "Oh, I see. Alright then if it's indeed a college matter."

At least there was someone who wasn't looking at me like I was the villain. My dad was the quickest to respond. “Who are you?” He demanded coldly. “This is a Hunt family matter. You have no right to interfere.” That man reached into his pocket and handed over a business card. “My name is Theo Grant.” His voice remained perfectly calm. “Executive Assistant to Mr. Zackary Walton.” Silence settled over the room. Even Susan looked momentarily surprised. Jared was the first one to recover. A small smile appeared on his face. “It's been a while, Theo.”

Emily The night seemed longer than usual. Even after lying down, I couldn’t quiet my thoughts. I had ideas about what I could offer Carlos and Marcos, but the priority was updating my résumé and sending it out. So, I got up, dragged myself to my laptop, and got to work. I revamped my résumé and sent it to Carlos via his personal phone. But as I worked on some spreadsheets, I felt uneasy. Was I taking advantage of our friendship to get a job? He’d told Bete he’d give work to friends, so I quickly deleted the message.

He was not oblivious to the facts; he kept silent, going with the flow. "Why didn't I meet Zaylee yesterday? She's my mother's secretary!" Griffin said without guilt, making Vion furious. What he regretted until now was making a promise to Griffin. That agreement allowed Griffin to be with Zaylee now under the guise of a CEO-secretary relationship.

I sigh and step away from him. " Goodnight." I smile at him. Anderson smiles at me, a little disappointed." Goodnight, Lauren." He opens my door and steps out. As soon as I hear his car door shut and the engine turn on, I scream. " Fuck!" I sigh heavily and walk to my living room. Why's he fucking with my head? Fuck you Chase. *** I grudgingly grade the assignment I gave the senior students from the mechanical engineering department. How could 69% fail the assignment? I took my time to explain every little bit of the lesson last Friday. Today's Monday and I don't have Chase's class until tomorrow.
