“Who is early?” My father turned toward the chamber entrance. His muscles coiled as though preparing for an inevitable clash. “The Crown’s Executioners.” The room grew colder at once. Executioners were not scouts or hunters. They were not emissaries or envoys. They were retrieval specialists, wolves trained to remove heirs or eliminate threats completely. Their presence meant the Crown believed diplomacy was over. A second wave of wolves entered the ritual chamber. Their movements were measured and silent, far more disciplined than the first group.

You die today." The executioner stepped forward with a burning torch. My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I thought it would burst. This was really happening. They were going to burn me alive.

Blood sprayed in all directions. However, the ones who died were not the three members of the Snow family. It was the three executioners.
