Well, it had indeed become useless.
It has been almost three hours since she called the IT department. She had done so immediately after I gave her the order.
Three long hours of cables, system checks, hushed conversations, and the faint humming of machines.
Zack, the IT guy in charge, finally straightened up from the desk and wiped his hands on his trousers.
“The virus was a bad one,” he had said calmly. Too calmly for my liking. “There was no way to recover anything from the hard drive. Whatever new file that entered that system would have been corrupted instantly.”
