I almost dropped it. I tried to smile. "Maybe he didn't." The room went quiet. Sophia looked confused, but Luca's voice turned cold before she could ask. "Or maybe he came back and found out the woman waiting for him hadn't waited at all." My breath caught. Sophia frowned. "Luca, what does that mean?"

Chase POV When I made my way to the Foster's house, I knew I had to speak with Jacob Foster. This was the last place that I wanted to be after what they did to pack members yet I couldn't help but come to the very place where Layla had grown up. There was something about Layla that kept pushing me towards this pack, when I married her, I swore that I wasn't going to fall for her or worry about her but somehow I saw myself doing the very same thing that I swore not to do.

They were both Layla’s and my miracle, and having them here again without Layla felt so strange. I came across Foster being transferred to the hospital wing to be treated. He must have been so tired. I wondered for how long he had been on the run; he must have run with adrenaline. And I couldn’t be more proud of him.
