The foster mother's face stiffened. Lalisa held a handful of bird food and tossed it out the window without looking at the foster mother. She looked at the pigeons and said, "Back then, Father wanted to advance his career, so he went to the Mo family and offered to take care of Jayce Sherwood. But who was the one who took care of him? Wasn't it me?" Her voice was calm, without any resentment, simply narrating the story. "I know you took care of Jayce for many years, but no matter what, he's now your sister's boyfriend." She exchanged a glance with Falcone, a silent acknowledgement of the weight of their revelation. Falcone spoke next, his tone measured. "We've been fostering you, Edwin, for twenty years, and Faith, for sixteen. But the roles we've played, as parents, are not quite what you might expect." He could not help but wonder how his sister ever fell for such a loser. Looking back, it was clear that Yessica had been sheltered too much by her family. That’s all I could ask for, really.” “Parents are supposed to love you,” Beth murmurs. “Not all of them,” Anderson mutters under his breath. Nobody else seems to overhear, but since he’s walking just behind me, his words reach my ears.

They either rode bicycles or e-bikes, rushing by. In the houses they rented, their families were waiting for them. Caroline envied them a little. No matter how tough or tired they were, they returned home to caring and loving family members and adorable children. She had money, but what awaited her when she got home? She had parents and siblings-in-law, but none of them genuinely cared for her.
