​I poured a glass of whiskey and stared at the framed copy of my debut novel sitting on the shelf. Cara Mia. ​Writing it had been my only lifeline during this hellish year. It was supposed to be a catharsis, a way to process the madness of being a mafia lord’s wife. Every page was stained with the truth of us. I wrote about the way he smelled of expensive tobacco and gunpowder, the way his Italian filtered through his lips like a prayer, and the way he looked at me as if I were the only thing in this world worth saving.

Giovanni took one of the seats on the table and waited quietly for the next order from his host. “I hope you know why you are here?” the godfather started, staring at Giovanni. “I received a letter of summon some days ago so I'm here,” Giovanni replied. The godfather rang a small bell on the table and some moments later, a guard walked in, holding a bottle and two glasses in a gold crested tray. He placed it on the table and turned the wine into two glasses before walking out again. “Help yourself.” the godfather said, pointing at the glass. He picked up one glass and took a sip before dropping it on the table. He took out a stick of tobacco and lit it, puffing the smoke out through his nost

However, the strange message made him do a double take. For some reason, the Godfather enjoyed watching him become a harem master. It did not matter if the people he interacted with were male or female. Godfather Veron was an extremely bored person who craved the latest gossip. Zen’s channel was full of wholesome moments which explained the Godfather’s favour. Zen had no idea if catching the eye of the academy’s founder was a positive or negative thing. However, credit was credit.
