The route took us down the corridor with two left turns south until we reached the garden. “Ah,” I sighed as my butt hit the bench. Oryndor chuckled, still standing and towering over me. There was a comfortable, respectful space between us. “You already sound like a grandma and you’re not even a global adult yet,” he teased. That made me laugh for real. “Pft! What the heck is a ‘global adult’?” “I heard some humans don’t count as adults until twenty-one. So globally, you’re still not there.” We both cracked up at his dumb joke.

I started walking around the lower floor of the cabin in search of this mystery woman he was so obsessed with. “There’s no need for that. I am a grown man. I can date and marry whoever I want. I don’t need your approval, and I certainly don’t need moms.” “I hate that,” I whispered, breathing out softly. “I hate when someone says ‘I am a grown whatever’ because it is so stupid. Being an adult doesn’t mean you can throw caution to the wind and do whatever the hell you want. And people wanting to help and care about you don’t undermine you as a person.”

“Purple? That must’ve looked cool. I don’t know if I’m ready for big changes like that. I’m still figuring out… everything.” Ava puts a hand on my arm, her touch reassuring. “That’s the point… you don’t have to have it all figured out. Adulthood isn’t about being perfect; it’s about trying stuff. Like, driving alone at night just because you can, or staying up late without curfew. But watch out for the hangovers if you start partying more. Those are different now.”

However, that loss is replaced by a gentle, affectionate stroke he gives to the top of her head. "You're truly grown up now." Fathia scrunches her nose again. "I'm twenty-three, Sebastian." "Yeah. I know. When do I not remember your age?" The girl's hands fold together. "So, why does being grown up matter?" "Being wiser to see a problem." "It's not getting wiser if you just get mad at me. It's so common that it feels like being loved in your snappiness." The guy just bursts into laughter. "You really can talk like that?"

"Hey, what is it?" "You know that I grew up with my granny, right? I never had my parents at any stage of my life. My first day of school, pta meeting, school celebrations, Christmas holidays, my birthdays… My granny always says we can do anything we want after we grow up. so I made a wish to grow up soon to be with them." I wiped my tears saying, "Now that I'm grown up, I realised that there are some things we can't do even if we're grown ups." He placed the cake beside him and gave me a hug.

I hate crying because I think it makes me look weak, and I don’t like to look weak in front of my pack--or anyone else for that matter. I think saying goodbye to my parents truly made me realize how grown up I really was. I am an adult now. I didn’t need a fake guardian or someone else to take care of me anymore. I know I’d been essentially taking care of myself since Grandma died, but now it was more official somehow.

I pressed myself against the wall, covering my mouth, trembling. What stuck out of the torn paper was a pale, lifeless human hand. "Get this handled quickly. The new goods will arrive soon," Grandma said with calm authority, giving instructions to Aunt Ivy, the person leading the team. The group moved away, pulling a cart up the mountain. I sank to the ground, feeling utterly dazed. I was struggling to process what I had just witnessed. Back home, I was struck with a high fever and missed the days of the coming-of-age ceremony that followed.

Eliora Graham replied. Isabella couldn't help but break out into a long laughter. She watched as Charles couldn't find words to retort back at her. At five, already becoming an adult? That's hilarious. “Yes my dear, you're gradually becoming an adult. Your uncle Charles was also little like you in the past.
