It felt to her like hours had passed since she’d left the hilltop. The long walk had cleared her mind, and now she just felt hollowed out, depressed. Empty. Alone. Now, instead of looking up at the castle as her new home, as a place she looked forward to fixing up, a place where she could spend her life in peace, she just saw it as a reminder of Caleb, and of his leaving her alone.

Damien drove the rogue down, one knee in its chest, claws at its throat. “Say another word to her,” he growled, “and I will remove your tongue.” The rogue smiled up at him. “You cannot stop a door once it knows her blood.” The journal fluttered in my hand. Pages snapping hard enough to sting. Words appeared. THE HOLLOW CALLS WHAT THE HOUSE WAKES. The trial outcome was mostly the same, but she was allowed to enter galaxy lands more often because she kept fighting for parental rights, begging for support, and dragging the fathers through one hearing after another. The heroine of that book had been written like a stupid girl who fell in love with three men right away, but this Vera did not even know how those men looked beyond the public descriptions and the broken memories left behind by the original host. She could guess from what she remembered of the book, but her mind had forgotten how to care about fantasy faces. She had read that story in a ruined world just to kill time, to distract herself from hunger, smoke, and the sound of z

Clara opened it with trembling hands, revealing a leather-bound journal filled with the Archivist's elegant script. "It's their journal," she said, her voice hushed. "They left it for us." Morwen studied the journal, her expression curious. "What does it say?" Clara opened the first page, reading aloud. "To those who come after: I have watched you struggle, suffer, and triumph. I have seen you grow into the people you were always meant to be. This journal contains everything I have learned—the history of the Hollow, the secrets of the loops, and the truth about the forces that shaped your world."

They had somber but contemplative expressions. "Will they help?" Ash asked. "Some will," Wells said. He had stayed behind. "Hendricks is practical. She will push for evacuation at a minimum. Briggs will organize those willing to fight. It's preferable to nothing. A stranger staggered out of the woodland that evening as darkness descended upon the Hollow. Vera. Before she could get to the clearing, she passed out. Wolves came running to assist her. She had blood all over her. hurt. hardly awake.

Thank God. If I’d woken up to Damian hovering over me, whispering lies into my skin, I would’ve ripped out my own IV just to escape. The past few days have been still. Just silence and quiet. Vinny and Gabby have been my only company. Sitting by me, knowing I had to work everything out for myself. And in that silence, I’ve remembered things I was too exhausted to face before; things they all tried to bury under manipulation and guilt.

I blurted, “just has magic.” “What’s it like?” “Horrible.” “But.” Emma started. I shot her a look as Eddy barged in, “Hey Val morning Emma!” He said cheerfully as he strolled right in and draped himself on a chair. “Morning.” I replied looking at my feet. “So.. What. What would you like to do?” Eddy asked his arms crossed expectantly. “What do you mean?” “Justin has been tasked with something else for the morning.” Eddy rolled his eyes, “he gets the cheery job of fixing the mess that Eric has made with the wraiths.
