I pointed out, getting on the bike while I waited for her to join me. She got on the bike and her smaller hands found their way around my waist, gripping tightly. Hunter glared at him, his eyes sharp and unrelenting, before turning his attention to me. “Everyone,” Hunter said, his voice firm. “This is my wife, Anya Steele.” The room went silent.

Their blood tainted the pristine snow. A sharp sting ripping through my back. The bite of wolfsbane and silver rushed through my muscles. Snarling, I turned to find my attacker. Blood sprayed as I tore his head from his body. His lifeless body dropped to my feet. My wounds closed even before his head hit the ground. My wolves meted out death, tearing the hunters to pieces. But something was wrong. ‘Excellence,’ Hein spoke through the link. ‘Where are the rest of them?’

She collapsed onto the leather, trembling and satisfied — like someone who’d finally been branded by the fire they’d always chased or craved. Hunter straightened his shirt and looked down at the girl. "Tell Mario to bring me something cold." "Y-yes, sir," she breathed. He walked away, his fury dulled but not dead. He needed a drink. A few minutes later, Mario, the old bartender with rolled sleeves and a weathered face, handed Hunter a fresh glass of whiskey. "Rough night?" Hunter gave a tired chuckle. "You could say that." Mario nodded. "You keep cleaning the shadows, Devil, but they’ll always crawl back."

Each small token felt like a small verdict handed down on someone’s life. I thought about the hunters, about the way they moved like a religion, how they had lists and codes and a taste for ritual. His gauntlet was imbued in orange colour and after passing through the second circle, a blast of inferno was released. The flame bore through the armour skin of the snake and left a charred scar on its exposed flesh. It was not enough to stop the snake though. The snake changed the aim of its guns and rained magic bullets on the Hunters.
