I breathed hard, dragging my body up as I crawled forward on all fours like a fucking dog. I didn't stop, didn't even look back, not even when the air around me stiffened. Not even when the animals went quiet and the trees froze as though they had held their breath. Because deep down, I already knew what this meant. Something was slamming hard against my rib cage in a really violent way. I knew what it was. My heart. "I found out who you were—Matteo Leone, a twenty three year old bisexual man, living in your father's house like a prisoner." He leaned forward slightly. "I learned everything about you—your urm... useless family, and your situation within hours of funding you."

I had only seen Mildred and Garren shift, so this was new. Hunter wasn’t nearly as big as Garren, but he was bigger than Mildred. His scales looked rougher, and he had spikes lining his back along his spine. His talons were longer than the others, and his wings looked like they were tipped with ice shards. “Hunter is the last of his kind,” Mildred said low enough for only me to hear. “He’s beautiful. He looks like he is covered in pieces of ice.” I said in awe. She let out a laugh.

Han was lounging with a blue drink in hand, looking pleased with himself. “Hunter, glad you could make it,” Han said, snapping his fingers. A female vampire appeared almost instantly. “Take care of him,” Han murmured, then turned to Hunter. “Have fun, my friend.” The girl handed Hunter a drink, which he downed in one go. She pulled him into a room, and things moved quickly, jacket off, shirt off, her dress on the floor. She wasn’t bad, Hunter thought, yanking her into his lap as he sank his fangs into her neck. He took her hard, a couple of times, but even then, Chloe’s face flashed in his mind.
