She hesitated, then added, “But he’ll be back.”
Xavier inclined his head. “Good.”
Conversation flowed easily after that.
Hunters sat beside wolves without tension. As much as it hurt to admit, the wedding had proven something important. When it mattered, the hunters here had chosen the right side. Laughter rose where suspicion once lived. Plates were filled, emptied, and refilled again.
“Honestly,” Betsy said between bites, “if all political upheaval ended with this many babies, I’d tolerate it more often.”
Agatha gave her a look. “You absolutely would not.”
