At the journalist whose phones had not left their hands all morning. “What do I need to do?” I asked through clenched teeth, the words dragging out of me against my will as I flung my charms through the window. Jasmine unfolded her arms, her gaze locking onto mine with a calm that felt suffocating. “I might consider letting you stay—” she said slowly. Let the words sink in. Hope flickered alive at her words— “—if you kneel,” she continued, her lips curving, “and do an act of worship to me.”

Her bodyguards automatically opened umbrellas, and draped her in a fur coat. "I am Jasmine, the Smiths' one and only heiress!" she declared. "In Aston, the higher-ups of the state government aren't the only ones who call the shots here!" Her gaze was as sharp as a sword, each word cutting through the tension. Jennifer, who was held back by the Yorks, she suddenly couldn't contain her joy. Jasmine! Who would've thought this grand reinforcement was brought by Jasmine herself? "The Smiths! Why..." Wade was thunderstruck. His mind was a whirlwind, his eyes widened in disbelief.

Jasmine's POV I managed to reach the venue of the mating ball just in time. I scanned through the crowd to locate my family and found them sitting under the canopy right next to the Alpha's family. I was putting on an old, worn-out dress that could fit in five people of my size. This was the best dress I could afford, and I didn't want to miss witnessing Chloe's shifting process. With my head downwards, I walked toward my family and I hadn't even taken a seat when my mother shouted:

" He said and walked away hastily, leaving me to regret my outburst. Why did I have to say that? It was none of my business. *** It was time for the party, and I stared at my dress laying on the bed. A black corset gown, embroidered with pearls. It felt odd. Dressing up after all that time. It wasn't for him. I wasn't dressing up for Zayn. I tried hard to convince myself that I wasn't. He got me the dress and suggested the whole dating and party thing. I was just playing along, right? "It isn't real, Cielle... This is all a game, a plot to get back what was taken away from you." I muttered to myself as I took off my bathrobe.

“This place is full of people you can’t trust. You can only trust me, at least for now. Not Damien. If he knows you’re not yet a wolf, he is going to fight to claim the throne and probably claim you are an Omega, and we don’t know that yet. If he decides to try and claim the throne, everything is against you. You don’t have any fight abilities, you’re not yet a full wolf—you’re going to lose. And you lose the throne along with it.” I nodded, understanding what he meant. But I thought to myself. Do I even want this throne? It seems like a deadly thing to fight for. Was I ready to fight for something so deep and important to these people? I just wanted to shut him out. I would think about it.

The warriors that were training seemed to be right outside the dome Tonya had made around us. The sense of smell then kicked in as the evergreen trees tickled my nose. The smell of fresh flowers from the gardens of Jaxson’s house took over at this moment, as I let out a sneeze from their invasion.
