Arthur stepped into the mud-stained room, looked at me on the floor, and did something that would have made Spencer’s heart stop.

The softness in his voice eased some of the tension including my raging nerves, atleast enough to keep my heart rate stable again instead of the frenzy it was in a few moments ago. "N-no. They were fine." I nervously stuttered, before clearing my throat. "That's good. Please, you don't have to fear me or anyone in the castle actually. No one will harm you, I give you my word," The man assured," Now, on to more pressing matters, my Lady. I'm Noah, King Theo's trusted advisor, Beta and Best friend. May I have your name?" King Theo? Beta? My Lady? Where am I? "My Lady?" The ma-, I mean, Noah's voice came through my foggy, confused mind.

I spit, "especially in my case." He shakes his head. Unimpressed. "I do not make threats. Only statements." "Who the fuck do you think you are?" He quirks a brow. The king. Suddenly, it's as if someone dumped a bucket of cold water on me. "The king," I gasp, eyes wide. "You're the king." Two months. Assassination. The ground slips from beneath me. How could I have forgotten?

I am so royally f*cked, and not in a good way. "Tell me," the king says, "Do you know of the rumors about me?" What an odd thing to ask. "The half-wolf rumors?" I say. "Sure, who hasn't? People like to talk." "They're all true." Huh? True? Is the king actually insane? Sexy and crazy? Not my favorite combination, I have to admit. "I'm a shifter, Hera," he says. "I have no idea what that's supposed to mean," I respond.

They feared what he could become. But the switch had already flipped. The blood already spilled.” I listened, transfixed by the bitterness in his voice. It wasn't a story—it was confession carved in steel. “He didn’t choose the mafia. But that path doesn’t ask for your consent. It claims you. Binds you. Builds you. The man who was once overlooked became something darker. Greater. Feared.” He took a breath. “He eliminated the king. And in doing so… became one.” His voice softened at the end—but it felt more dangerous that

"A king is the father of the nation he presides over. He must be impartial and his power uncontested. He lives for his subjects and his subjects live for him. A king must not be selfish. A king must always put the interest of his nation before his own-" She raised her head and watched the sky." His son, Pluto didn't hesitate to use all his descendants as bargaining chips to calm the deteriorated relationship between Lustburg and the surrounding kingdom. “Yes. Don't be so surprised. We asked people in the kingdom about each of you. Most of them had positive things to say about you, and even the kingmakers’ choices favored you.” “Kingmakers?” I quizzed, “favors me?” I found it incredibly hard to believe, but Mr. Crestwood confirmed it once again. I had no choice but to accept that it was reality—my new reality. “Congratulations, your highness!” The kingmakers chorused in unison, and I had to force a nod in response to their greetings. “Congratulations brother,” Kirk beamed a smile at me, stretching his hands forward for a handshake.

It was too quiet for my liking. Sol would definitely prefer it this way. That’s why my babbo wanted him to lead the family. Babbo was named the Mafia King. Sol took over when he died and now… there’s me. A woman who is leading one of the world’s biggest mafia.
