Since then they always come here and play or read my book collection. Luke was currently reading Survival of the Fittest by Jonathan Kellerman. I recommend the book to him saying that he'll like the genre, although I might say that it was a psychological conditioning to help him view the world a little differently, and what I mean is the way I wanted him to see it.

I was twenty-five years old and terrified. The book was released on a Tuesday. By Friday, it hit the bestseller list. "It's number three," Rebecca called to tell me. "And climbing. Early reviews are incredible." I read some reviews online. They ranged from glowing to hateful. Some readers connected deeply with my story. Others called me a traitor to humanity. "Don't read the negative ones," Kyle advised. "They don't matter." But they did matter. Every hateful comment reminded me why I'd written the book. To combat that exact hatred with truth and love.

I had no clue what we would do once we left here and had to return to our lives, but I tried not to think past today. The word scramble game I had played on my iPad for months didn't hold my attention, yet I forced myself to stare at the screen until my eyes closed with boredom. I set the device in my lap and rolled my head to stare at the freckles that marked his face and the smile that tugged at his lips when he realized I was watching him. "What are you reading?" "The Kite Runner." He stuck his finger between the pages and flipped the book over so I could see the cover.

Of course, when Ed asked, the smile vanished immediately, as Ruby hadn't realized she was smiling at him. “This... the book is funny.” Ruby lowered her head and held up her book. Nervously, she adjusted her position, leaning against the headboard. “The Kite Runner.” Ed read the title and was puzzled. "Do you think the book is funny? Which part?” Ed had never found any part of that book amusing because the story was heartbreaking. “Um, which part was it?” Ruby frantically flipped through the pages, looking for a funny part that didn’t exist, until Ed smiled amusedly and took the book from her hands.

And this one does.” “Think about what?” I asked, hoping my curiosity wasn't obvious. “Is this some sort of interview?” he asked, placing the book on the table without closing it.
