POV: Lilah When I was a kid, legacy had meant two things: An old guy in a suit on TV left his company to a smarmy son, or a cursed script that said, “You die on an altar so everyone else lives.” Neither of those was on my vision board anymore. “What do you think?” I asked, fingers hovering over the stack of printed pages on the council table like they might bite. Naomi perched backward on a chair beside me, craned her neck to read the title.

The other threatened. "Arrrgh!" Eva exclaimed puzzled. She must be shocked and afraid that this would come true. I made a signal to her not to be afraid. The two hybrids left were done with within a twinkle of an eye and we remembered no such incident. It was history now and history is best kept as history.

Ethan exhaled sharply, pacing a few steps. “This is ridiculous.” “Sir,” Victor continued, “you are the only surviving heir of the Cross lineage.” Ethan froze. The words didn’t immediately register.
