Alec barked out a loud laugh, the room rumbled at the force of his laughter. “There it is,” he muttered. “The rejected Luna, trapped in the middle of an unreciprocated love,” he said.

“We don’t hurt people who haven’t hurt us, especially those who are running away from something and need our help.” I look away, shame creeping up my throat. “You don’t have to tell me what happened,” he adds quickly. “But you don’t have to be afraid either.” I look back at him. His kindness is confusing. I don’t know how to trust it. “I was rejected.” The words burn my tongue. Elian tries his best not to look surprised, but I can see the cracks of sympathy and pity breaking across his face. “I was supposed to become Luna.” I scoff a sad chuckle. “But it turns out I'm not the Luna material for him. He rejected me in front of everyone, and the entire pack watched.”

With a smile, Susan stood tall beside Luna, offering unwavering support. As the reality settled in, Justin's face contorted with a mix of embarrassment and anger. Luna's rejection and her unyielding confidence had bruised his ego. He reluctantly turned away, his hopes and illusions shattered, realizing that Luna was no longer the easily swayed girl he once knew.

His response surprised me. "I... I had to. I couldn't stay in your pack after your rejection," I murmured meekly, my voice barely audible as I stared at the ground, avoiding his piercing gaze. I inhaled sharply, sensing his presence shifting closer, his presence almost suffocating. "There is no certain rule that, after rejection, a Luna has to leave," he asserted, his voice laced with authority, breaking through the tension. But he seemed to forget that I was no longer his Luna after his rejection.
