Three faces of Rose
Her face turned stiff, cold, blank, the look she always reserved for me and my brother back then.
I cleared my throat.
“Ms. Fifth Secretary,” I said sharply, “stand up, we’re leaving.”
Rose stood quickly and waved politely at my mother.
My mother gave her a small smile back something she had never given me.
Rose followed me out of the house, and we both walked to the car.
She went in first, sitting quietly at the back, while Josh chose to drive.
The moment I got in beside her, I turned to her.
“How did you get close to my mom so fast?” I asked.
