The Metamorphosis Novels & Stories

It was a period of transformation. Was all that loudness mere distractions? If a person wears his heart in his sleeves, then what does he hide beneath that chest? How can the silence be so mean and unforgiving? Does the refusal to speak simply means that there was nothing to be said anymore? In thirty days, a butterfly's life will be complete, coming out of the cocoon as a changed and majestic creature. But humans aren't butterflies and thirty days weren't enough. In thirty days, you're world can turn upside down. You can learn a new way to breathe. You can grow into something you've never imagined to be. You can laugh like you never did before.

That was the most important thing. If you didn't know, a spotted turquoise green frog could save you, if you turned into it, when you were chased by someone who wanted to swallow you, for exmple that viper Alexander, because the frog could poison the place it went through, leaving behind an extremely strong substance. And the pursuer, no matter what it was, if it passed exactly where the little frog passed, touching the grass, the leaves or the branches touched by the frog, became confused, puzzled because of the poisoned air, and gave up pursuing. And most importantly, you had to know what you turn into. Transformatum was easy to say, but:

All joints and bones were neatly redone, and all ruined organs were fixed up like a cloth set by an excellent tailor. After all…. a body was but clothing to cover the real thing. ‘It’ burst into heavy laughter as it got up, all scars and bruises fixed, hair just as before, everything just as beautiful as before- but that wasn’t its true form. “And now to transform,” ‘It’ muttered. Bulging, growing, transforming into a body much more significant than it had now, it finally took its proper form turning into the very monster it was- the monster Carlene had feared would overtake her.

The transformation was happening so rapidly, and Beverly felt helpless, caught in the throes of an unspeakable nightmare. Her limbs twisted and elongated, her muscles contracting and expanding as her human form gradually gave way to something monstrous. Her clothes tore and shredded, unable to withstand the grotesque metamorphosis. Beverly's entire body convulsed as she cried out, a feral, guttural sound of pain and fear.

I knew deep down that this metamorphosis was essential, a necessary step toward embracing my true nature. A primal force surged through my veins, fueling the transformation. My skin erupted in a torrent of fur, coarse and thick, as though a wild beast was being unleashed from within. The fur spread across my body like wildfire, obscuring the pale complexion that once defined me. I watched in awe and horror as my reflection in the nearby puddle morphed into that of a creature of the night.

He seems to be concentrating on something, something I can’t possibly identify. "There is no way you can prove to me that-" I am halted by his quick transfiguration, looking in wonder and awe as the lovely guy suddenly melts, his head crashing into his body. It is like a waterfall, the way his body suddenly falls into itself. However, there is a glimmer of light before he becomes a puddle on the floor, his-body-liquid-I-don't-really-know creating a shape. Another instant and he is that form. A gigantic wolf with sharp white teeth and black eyes that matches his pupils.

"I will make it up to you, my child—" He was barely done speaking when his body began to convulse. He jerked away from me, screaming and staggering. I watched him in awe as he transitioned from one form to another. His bones stretched and realigned as though he were rubber. He grew, his height changing, then sank back into the human shape. It was almost as though he was unsure of the figure he wanted to end up in. His convulsions eased enough to slow the entire process down so that each alternating form lingered for a little while.

"It said that Primus and Carnelia may lose themselves to the dream, that their minds might be lost or damaged when they are removed." "Damaged, no," he looks at me intently. "Different, yes. But the entire point of a dream walk is for a person to take a journey of self-discovery. It is impossible to take a journey of transformation and not be changed as its very nature is to cause metamorphosis of that magnitude that it becomes a metamorphosis." "A metamorphosis," I repeat, trying to grasp his confusing and poetic steam of words. "But will they be changed so much that they are no longer the people I know? Will my brother still be my brother when this nightmare is over?"

I was taken aback by her words, as she was always a kind soul and for her to become so harsh was something new. So I just nodded my head when she looked at me in anticipation. “I think you’ve realized I’ve changed. And so have you” I nodded my head, unsure of where she was going with all of this. “Think of it like a caterpillar in metamorphosis. In some way, that is an end to the caterpillar’s life and the start of the butterfly. We are in metamorphosis. We are transforming into our highest self. Our best self. Our most powerful self. And although it would’ve been best to just wait for time to take its course, we have no such thing as time on our hands.”

Petrified, I could only watch helplessly as my hands and feet distorted, fingernails elongating into razored claws while coarse silver fur sprouted from my skin. My spine arched sickeningly, realigning into a lupine structure and my face elongated into a deadly snout filled with dagger-like fangs. When the metamorphosis was completed, I found myself hurtling through the underbrush on all fours, paws churning up great swaths of loam as Ria fled headlong into the forest's secretive embrace. "Ria, stop! Please!" I pleaded desperately through our mindlink, my voice raw with anguish. "We can't just run away from this! I...I need to talk to Damien, to try to underst
