I don’t know that I’ll ever see my parents again.
After a while, Mim sits up abruptly, a twinkle in her eye. “Wanna play a game?” she asks.
I am a little suspicious. “Oookay,” I say, staring at her from the corner of one eye.
“It’ll be fun,” she says, but I’m not sure I can trust her. She laughs, I laugh, and then she leaps up to go get whatever it is we need to play the game, and I sit cross legged on the bed, forgetting about my tears and ready to be silly with my new best friend.
