Inside sits Cassian and Leo at the front.
He doesn't look at me as I enter. I take out my drenched fleece slumping on the seat. “Are they gone?” He asks.
I nod, checking my phone for an update.
“We need to do it now,” he says.
“What changed?”
“Things are getting intense, better now than ever.”
The conversation dies and we make it to the mansion. I leave to set up in the basement welcoming the distraction.
The saline solution glints under the dim light, the liquid inside deceptively harmless. My hands hover over the syringe, steady but cold. I've studied this, read every material I could find, asked all the questions, and practiced and I think I'm ready.
