Chapter 3 — You wanted this marriage, now you're stuck in it Kate stood at the counter, carefully plating the food. Her movements were slow, deliberate—like if she rushed, everything inside her would spill over. The scent of the meal filled the kitchen, but i memories pressed against her chest, heavy and painful. Ellie came back a few days ago. She still remembered that night clearly. Ellie standing at the door, eyes red, voice trembling. Apologizing. Crying. Saying she had made the biggest mistake of her life. Mason had stood there, frozen, while Kate watched from the staircase, her heart pounding as if it already knew what was coming.

Ella scolded, wiping her tears with the back of her palm. “Why?.” Kenia asked, her brows furrowed slightly. “Because I deserve every attitude Elias gave me, it’s all my fault.” Ellen said, her eyes swollen from crying. “Don’t say that mum, nothing is your fault. You love him just the way you love us all.” Kenia countered, trying to make her mum see herself in a positive light. “You’re still a child and probably don’t understand.” Ellen said and stood up. “Let’s just get you ready for college.”

' She corked her head to the side to drive home her point. 'Well, I have to be. Look at the trouble he got us into. He got me-' she emphasized the word me '-into. I could have been dead by now.' Elena was adamant. 'He has resolved that. They went all the way to Croonville to sort everything out, didn't they?' Elena sighed again. Eyes rolled up, she thought about Sheena's argument. 'It was a stupid thing to begin with. How could he make a mistake such as that in the first place?'

She turned to get a dress from the chair and she was still smiling when I also stretched my hand to get my shirts from the floor. They were silent between us now but it was comfortable. As I began to button my shirts she spoke again quietly. “Kennedy?” “Yes?” She hesitated. “Ella is still upset with me. She's a friend from the old branch. I left without telling her and I promise to visit her soon to make up for it.” I nodded. “Oh that is fine you should try to make it up to her okay?”

Now, she wished she could crawl into a hole and hide from the embarrassment. "I'm sorry, Mr. Moore. I've mistaken you for someone else," Then, she complained quietly to Keegan, "Weren't you beside me just now? Where did you go?" Keegan said with an unhappy expression, "You were the one hugging someone else and not letting go, yet you have the audacity to blame me?" Stella choked on his words. 'Son of a bitch, doesn't he know how to give me a way out?' In the end, Marshall said, "Based on the situation, it's normal to mistake anyone for someone else. Besides, I have the same physique as Keegan."

He couldn't believe I went through so much torture in his short absence. Cassius was on the ground, staring at us in confusion. "D-Donald? I thought you were—" Donald looked at him with ice-cold fury. "A useless piece of shit that's only in a coma? Can't believe I'm standing up right now?" Cassius trembled, and his mother was grasped by fear. Donald handed me to the doctor and slowly closed in on them. "A snake and her equally venomous spawn. I knew it was a mistake letting you marry into the family."

Lance's POV She keeps glancing at me then throws her gaze out the car window as I speed through the tarred road. I can tell she is exploding with so many questions. The wedding dress is a mess now, but damn! She still looks like the most beautiful disaster I've ever seen. But then, of all the women I had to crash into, it had to be Theodore Martins' daughter. Why did I miss researching who her dad is? Good thing the helicopter caused enough mess, he could have seen my face and that would mean a different kind of unraveling.

Will I let her win over me again? "Let's vote then" Hudson concurred, standing up. The other lady sat down this time. "Things happen. Is there anybody who can do a perfect job in this life?" A man spoke up again. "I don't think we need to vote her out but give her time to redeem herself because this is her first mistake" "So, do we keep letting her off every mistake she makes until she finally crashes down the company?" The first lady who eyed me spoke up. She really hated my guts

I leaned toward him, urging, “Yes?” He sucked in a sharp breath. “The tests were incorrect.” I elegantly covered my mouth with my hand, pretending to be in shock. “Are you trying to tell me that Doctor Rogers, your friend, made a mistake that led to our divorce?” Kenneth sucked in a sharp breath. “Well… yes. He made a terrible mistake.”

Jackson’s eyes in the mirror convey his sadness. I don’t want their pity. It’s over. I made a mistake, I chose wrong, and I wasted four years of my life. Kennedy continues, “Honestly, we knew he became overly controlling. We just thought you chose not to drink so you could try to keep him from losing his temper.” She, too, looks at me sadly. “You changed everything for him. You gave up so much.” “Enough!” I yell. “This is a John-free trip. I am single. I need to heal and move on. I can’t do that if you two are pointing out all the mistakes I made.”
