Part 1 I'm from a lost place. A place that seems to be nothing more than a small mountain town, nestled in the forest and kept from the world. People don't come around here, and that's how we like it. We are free to be ourselves that way. I grew up in the trees. We have our houses and stores and parks and other things that humans have grown accustomed to, but we spend most of our time outside, in the breeze and under the stars. That's one thing I'll regret leaving behind—the magic of the mountain night sky. My mother says that in the cities you can't see a thing, only darkness.

Mom – ‘How’s it going, baby? My parents had been my biggest supporters in all of this and it was their guidance that kept me going. Every time that I felt like a failure, the reassured me and lifted my head back up to focus on what was important. Jadelynn, my girl. She was the most important thing in my entire life. Me – ‘Good. I’m currently in Glacier Peak, Montana. The tether is tighter than I’ve ever felt before.’ Mom – ‘That’s great to hear! Don’t forget to eat, drink, and rest. Jadelynn needs you in top condition.’

He was now my new bestfriend. "Very. She applied to UCLA and was accepted, but her mother threw a fit. So, she's going to university here in Montana. I have a very overprotective wife." Strike that. ********************** Some months later ********************** I have been avoiding Mazi for so long to no avail, I really regretted what happened between us in the past however I'm really pressured right now. My petty business is not enough to pay my rent, cloth, or feed Sarah and me, not to talk of Sarah's school fees. The hours I spent under the sun has made my skin darker and wrinkled, I don't wear makeup anymore and it used to be one of my favorite things in the world. Sarah would soon be eight years but she has matured beyond her age because of the circumstances revolving around us, I have failed her as a mother. "Mum, I'm hungry." Sarah's soft voice broke my reverie.

He looked away and didn't spare Ivana another glance. When Ivana was telling the twins a bedtime story, her mind was elsewhere. Cheryl thoughtfully touched her forehead and asked, "Ms. Lamont, are you not feeling well?" Ivana felt a sudden surge of irritation. Being driven away by Luther had caused her to become impatient toward the two pups. "Don't call me Ms. Lamont. I'm actually your mother," she snapped. Cheryl and Lucas didn't believe her. They even laughed. "You're lying, Ms. Lamont. You're not our mommy."

She gives me a side-eye glance, looking down. “I can’t help you if you don’t let me.” My father says gently in a tone I’ve only ever heard him use with my sisters and my mother. “I sent them to Montana.” “Montana? Why there?” He asks. “It was far away and I knew they could hide there.” “Why did you send them now.” “I was afraid they would get killed.” “By us?” My mother asks. “No. Well, yes, but now the witches are after me too.”

Taylor gives her a hug. “Don’t say that, Momma. What happened, happened. We need to remain focused on your recovery and not about negativity. So yeah, that explains the guys outside. We want to protect you momma from any unwanted sleazebags and to help keep you clean.” “Thank you, sweetheart. It means the world to me. Now tell me about you and Levy. I promise I won’t judge. It’s just a shock is all.” And so, I tell her about Levy and I. I tell her about the ranch he has bought in Montana and how he’d like us all to vacation there soon. Momma’s eyes light up and she tells me she would love to go visit Montana.

"Oh, okay", My mother said and nodded. I kept watching Montana, hoping that maybe she would spare me a glance, but she was just so fixed on her food and withdrawn.

A giant map of Montana greeted her. Never in her life had Everly missed Colorado more than at that moment. Montana was huge, covered in forests she wasn’t allowed to go into, and to top it all off, it had swallowed up her mother.

He said I was an awful mother and didn't deserve our kids. In pure rage, I said nothing to anyone and got on Thunder. We stormed away from the stables. I let him run as hard and fast as he could to our destination. I was letting tears run down my face and disappear in the wind behind us as I rode hard and fast. I stopped Thunder at the fence and looked up at the big bright Montana sky before taking a breath. I dried my face and listened as more messages came through on my phone. I ignored them knowing who they were from and started off along the fence to check for gaps, fur from animals and tracks.
