~Maya~ Walking down the street, I delved deep in my thoughts. I had just booked a flight to California, luckily there was one more seat available. Victor aimed a gun at Amy, while Vanessa stood beside him, wearing a smile full of deceit. "Zack," Victor said, his voice cold. "You know why we're here. Give us Nathaniel, or you'll lose the one you love." Zack, though filled with anger, remained calm. He stood in front of Amy, like a shield against any danger. Elena's POV The air smelled fresher today — cleaner somehow, as though the universe itself had conspired to make this moment perfect for me. I stood by the window, watching the sunlight stretch lazily across the hospital courtyard. Nurses bustled about, and cars hummed in the distance, but my mind barely registered the noise. I was leaving today — finally. After weeks of being stuck in this sterile room, breathing recycled air and listening to the constant beeping of machines, I was free.

Flipping off the lights, he stripped down to his boxers and collapsed into bed, trying to keep his mind off the girl who was just two rooms over. Just as he was on the verge of falling asleep, he heard his phone vibrate on the bedside table. He heaved a sigh when he saw Taliana’s name flash on the display and grudgingly answered. “What do you want now?” he mumbled.

Matter of fact, she is sure she will be next. The man has cold dead eyes, blacker than the night. He stares right at her and aims the gun. Before the end, all she hears is the owl hooting from the nearby tree and the cracking sound of her skull.

I could die if I stayed here. I turned around and looked for my phone, which should be on the nightstand, but I didn't see it. I opened the drawers in my room as well as the closet, but I couldn't find my device. Maybe Gavin took it out or threw it in the river when he went to the office. Indeed, nothing is impossible. I opened the curtains of the room that had been closed, and my eyes caught a middle-aged woman sweeping outside. "Ina!" I called in a hoarse voice. My throat was sore. Everything hurt.
