They shoved me into the back of the sleek black car, slamming the door shut. Trapped between two men, I knew there wasn’t any escape. Furious tears stung my eyes as the engine roared to life, the car speeding off into the city’s darkened streets. I pressed myself against the front chair, every muscle tense. This couldn’t be happening. This was some kind of nightmare.

"Bad men? What bad men? Where are you? What happened?" "I don't know!" I sobbed. "We were at the library and the bad men came and Mark was fighting them and they took Mama and Scout got thrown and she hit me and I fell down the big hill and now I'm at the bottom and it's so dark and cold and everything hurts and I can't find Mama!" "Oh my God. Oh my God." I heard her moving really fast, like she was running. "CHLOE! CHLOE, GET IN HERE NOW!"
