Romans & histoires The Run Away Wife

Tears pour from my eyes, staining the page as I stare at the last item on the list. RUN AWAY AND START OVER. I cross the point and scribble something else. ESCAPE THIS MARRIAGE AND START OVER.

Noah said with a faraway look in his eyes. “I love you, Noah Shaw.” Natalia said. “Same here, Natalia Shaw.” Noah said with a tight lipped smile before running up the stairs. Natalia turned back to put Wendy’s arm back in a proper position should in case she fell or something. “I asked for a bit of spice. Definitely not crazy celebrity drama. A job, family, loving husband. For my best friend to get all those things too. I am tired of everything that is taking place now.” Natalia muttered and went up the stairs after her husband too.

And that baseball hat, in such a horrendous brown color. What was with the ugly clothing? He froze. This was all a disguise. She had even tucked all her long hair hidden beneath the baseball hat. He studied her. She was in Columbia, dressed like an ugly boy. The woman was running away. His wife was running away. He felt anger practically blocking his arteries. Her ex showed up yesterday. Today she was running away. She would have made a clean getaway if he had not come here. By the time anyone noticed she was not in the cabin, it would have been too late.

“But people change. Women especially. When they’re hurt, they leave. You should watch out for that. Don’t wait until she’s ready to fly and realize the cage door’s open.” Fly. The word scraped against me. Alice was my wife. Camilla’s mother. The acknowledged lady of the Newcombe household. Her life was built into mine, into this family. Where would she even fly off to? “She doesn’t have the nerve,” I said. “Or the means.” “She’s just emotional lately. That’s all,” I added, grasping for a version of reality I could tolerate. No one looked convinced. I drained my glass in one go. The burn slid down my throat, settled in my stomach, and cooled into something sharper — resolve.

"Either she’s not aware that the hotel belongs to me," Aaron continued "or she has a crush on me that’s why she ran away ?” “So full of yourself, aren't you?” “Always, now tell me, why did she suddenly run away from home ?” “That’s none of your business, it’s about my wife and my personal life.” “Then why is your wife not with you if she's in your personal life?” “You don't have to worry about that, she’ll soon be.”

Emma’s voice shook as she began to speak. “I… I ran away from my husband three days ago,” she whispered. “He used to hit me. Almost every day. He controlled all the money, all my movements. I wasn’t allowed to work or even talk to my family. And our daughter… he’s threatening to take her away from me. I have nothing. No money, no job, no place to stay. I just… I don’t know what to do anymore.” Her voice broke, and she started crying. The pain in her words hit me like a wave. I felt my own eyes burning with tears. I reached out and took her hand gently.

Like he was laying claim to what belonged to him and it was supposed to affect me. And it worked. His words replayed in my head until I reached home. She was his wife and there was nothing I could do about it. I looked over to my kitchen counter and I saw her again. The night she ran away. The way she fought back when I scolded her. And then the reason she ran away. I picked up my keys and drove back to the manor, to guard the Don's precious wife.

But still, her trembling fingers hesitated before flipping it open. And there it was. Her worst nightmare in black ink. A marriage certificate. Her name—Seraphina Devereaux. His name—Lucian Devereaux. The proof that no matter how far she had run, she had never truly been free. A sharp gasp escaped her lips before she could stop it. Lucian tilted his head slightly, his gray eyes darkening with something unreadable. "You’re still my wife, Seraphina. And I’m taking you back."

Hey I don't wanna be part of this brewing argument but I knew It's impossible to avoid it. I began to stutter when Reiner chipped in. "This is your final warning, Sylvester. Avoid my wife. She's mine and only I have the right to do with her as I please. If you've got a problem with that, then I won't hesitate talking to Mariah. I'm sure she'll be thrilled to learn her husband and my newly wedded wife are hitting it off behind her back." Sylvester's eyes clouded and he swore under his breath. "You're pathetic, Reiner. Grow up."

Elena deserved every bit of that affection . But watching him like this still hurt. watching him and knowing to him she would always be the wife he never wanted. Kate turned back to the counter, as she wiped her hands on a kitchen towel. She told herself she was used to this. Told herself it didn’t matter. She had been invisible long before she became his wife. Her mind went back, as it often did in moments like this, back to where it all began. Kate hadn’t always lived in a mansion. She had been an orphan—young, frightened, and carrying everything she owned in a small, bag when she first stepped into the Mason family estate. She remembered clinging to the edge of the doorway, afraid to brea
