I felt that one. She looked away for a second, her voice quieter now.
“You know why I’m here, Mira?” she said quietly. “Because I went to war with my own heart, and it won. You can’t win against your heart, Mira. The more you fight it, the deeper it pulls.”
Her words sat with me. For a long time, we just listened to the wind move through the leaves.
When I stood to leave, she hugged me again. “Be honest with yourself,” she whispered. “Whatever you choose, make sure your heart can live with it.”
