she replied, her voice betraying her emotions. Taking a cautious step inside, her heels echoed against the polished floor. Silence enveloped them, weighed down by the burden of their shared history. It felt as though time had folded in on itself, leaving them to face the rawness of the past. Finally, Jayden turned to meet her gaze. Devastatingly handsome as ever, his chiselled features and piercing eyes held her captive. “I have a proposal for you. One I think you’d find intriguing,” he stated, his voice resonating through the room.

“You wanted someone who didn’t look at you like a broken toy. You wanted out of that house, that family, and that mess. And I gave it to you. So don’t pretend you were some innocent casualty. We used each other, Lorraine. That was the deal.” I stared at him, throat tight. “I didn’t ask you to propose.” “But you didn’t say no, either. You liked what I could offer just as much as I liked what your secret DNA could get me.” He exhaled through his nose, voice dropping low. “So, don’t bring this up again. We both knew what we were doing.” For a beat, I couldn’t speak. The truth sat between us like a shard of glass, ugly and full of sharp points.

He didn't even have to say what would happen otherwise. He closed his eyes, and inhaled deeply, I was breaking in cold sweats, it's rather embarrassing. But, I had no time to consider such things, I was stuck into this chair like a frozen object.
