The creatures screeched and burned as they touched the fire, but more kept coming, kept pressing, kept trying to find a way through. The noise was deafening. The heat from Kael's shield was intense, and sweat dripped down my face. The ground beneath us began to shake, cracks forming in the stone as the fire heated the rock. Then the floor gave way. I screamed as I fell, the torch flying from my hand, the darkness swallowing me whole. I felt Kael's arms wrap around me, felt his body twist beneath mine, felt him pull me against his chest and cover me with himself. Then everything went blank.

His name had been erased from the language of the world, as though he had never been born, never ruled, never fought, never loved me. Except I remembered. And that was the curse. The bridge pulsed beneath my skin — calm now, obedient. But every time it thrummed, I could feel what it had cost. It wasn’t just a power. It was a grave. Sylra was the first to break the silence. “The realms are stabilizing,” she murmured, her voice thin from exhaustion. “The rift between light and shadow is sealed. You… did it.” Her words fell heavy in the air.

"Don't worry about it." But she was already worrying. I could see it in the way she bit her lower lip, the same thing Mom used to do before the pills made her stop caring about anything. "We're in trouble, aren't we?" Charlotte's voice was small. "Like, real trouble." I wanted to lie. God, I wanted to lie so badly. But I was tired of carrying everything alone, tired of pretending our world wasn't falling apart. "Yeah," I said. "We are." She nodded slowly, stirring sugar into her coffee. "How bad?"

Deep within the folds of existence, far from the mortal plane and even the watchful gaze of Olympus, the ruins of the Shadow Realm quivered in a broken silence. Once a fortress of impenetrable darkness and sprawling chaos, the realm now resembled a battlefield that had been swallowed by its own defeat. Great black spires, once proud and menacing, lay shattered in heaps of ash and crumbling stone. Rivers of smoke oozed across the cracked and broken ground, slithering through the rubble like dying serpents. The very air itself tasted of bitterness and failure, thick with a heavy stench of burning magic and decayed hope.

The Fall Between Realms Aria did not fall—she was ripped downward, dragged through layers of collapsing reality like a stone hurled through stained glass. The realms shattered around her. Shards of places she recognized—forests, moonscapes, oceans suspended in sky—fractured into bright splinters that cut across her skin as she tumbled through them. Her magic screamed, unraveling, recoiling, reforming, fighting to shield her from the collapse. Too fast—too many pieces—too much power—

She scrambled to her feet, gasping for air that tasted of dry copper and ancient electricity. She wasn't in the Citadel anymore. She was in the Shattered Realm. The room looked like the Hall of Trophies, but the proportions were agonizingly wrong. The ceiling was miles away, a swirling vortex of lightless violet clouds, while the walls curved inward like the belly of a dead beast. Gravity didn't pull down; it pulled sideways, tugging at her shawl with a persistent, ghostly hand. In the distance, the ruins of Eldergloom floated like broken teeth in a dark sea, the spires of the High-Sector twisted into jagged spirals that defied the eye.

BOOOOOOMMMMM “Hahahaha, in that case, I’m looking forward to it! I’m looking forward to the figure you spoke of, O Keeper of the Book of Heaven!” The core of that world shattered, and with it, the world that had once resembled a lifeless wasteland crumbled along with the destruction of that blood-soaked monster. Nothing remained of that world’s ruin—no life, not even the slightest trace that the world had ever existed in that place. With the destruction of yet another world, it signaled that other worlds would meet the same fate without assistance from the upper world or the realm of the gods.

Hopefully you'll enjoy the next generation of Guardians as much as you enjoyed the first trilogy. Also, if you haven't tried it, I have a book out called The Arena. It's the first in the Elemental Dragons series. It's very different from this world of the Guardians. That book is filled with shifters and, you guessed it, dragons. That series is intended to have four books, one for each dragon.

I checked the backseat to make sure I grabbed my gym bag, and headed out of the human city and into the pack lands. The drive was always peaceful, the dessert turning into mountains with an expansive wildlife. My father somehow convinced a High Priestess to create barriers, no one unless they were members of the alpha pack could enter, and if they tried they would burn from the inside out before there was nothing left. I’d seen it happen once, a lone wolf was unaware he was about to step into our territory, by the time we heard the screams, it was too late. My father was extraordinarily pleased that the barriers worked, and not at all worried about the loss of a life over a mistake.
