As he spoke, he asked coldly again, "Who are you people? What are you here for?" The warrior's demeanor angered Cloud Spirit to no end, and she roared indignantly, "Watch your tone! I'm telling you now, I'm not to be messed with." She was Empress Heidi's confidant—a well-respected figure. How dare the lowly Demon warrior disrespect her like that? Cloud Spirit's anger grew the more she thought about it. She was about to reveal who she was, but Darryl cut her off. "My fellow warriors!" Darryl had a placating smile as he spoke in a soothing tone. "We're just a couple of sect-less gods passing by, with nothing but rest in mind. We have no intention of crossing you at all."

She felt more confused than ever, and hoped that Aiden had answers. Finally, he stopped and faced them. “Yes, you are right,” Aiden began. “They are training.” Caitlin flushed, embarrassed he’d read her mind. “You just don’t see it, as you did in other times and places. In other days, it was a training of the body, a training of swords, and shields, and spears, and arrows. Here, it is a training of the spirit. Of the mind. It is a much deeper and more profound training. The final training, the final level of becoming a warrior. Here, our very souls are at stake.”

I take a moment to soak in the energy of the room, the raw determination that emanates from each warrior standing before me. "My brothers," I say, my voice infused with both pride and humility. He tried to conjure his wolf spirit, but nothing happened. Sucking in air, he pulled against the binding chains with all of his might. I couldn't be more uncertain. "Is it so hard to believe that I'm the real one?" It feels incredibly absurd to ask such a question, but all this suspicion is draining me of energy and hope. He sighs deeply, and it's only now that I notice the crease between his eyebrows from frowning too much. The Spirit of War’s POV I have watched many wars in my time as spirit of war. From mountaintops covered in mist… From treetops shivering in the wind… From shadows cast by moonlight and from the cracks between mortal breaths. I have seen empires rise and burn to ashes. I have seen kings crowned in blood and gods devoured by their own reckless creations. But rarely do I witness a war that shakes even the realms of the spirits. This was such a war.
